Sleep Habits

Last edited | 10/22/2008

Do we sleep differently according to our lifestyle, our age, our social status, our cultural habits, or where we live?

When people are asked about the way they sleep, it is usually in a clinical context, under medical supervision.

But what are the characteristics of sleep in the general population?

How does the "normal" individual experience sleep?

To find out, we went directly to the source, and spoke to people in their homes, using one of their favorite instruments of communication, the telephone.

Our research is based upon the conviction that a better knowledge of sleep habits, of the nature of people's complaints about sleep and of the individuals who complain and the treatment they follow, will lead to a better understanding of sleep disorders and their diagnosis.

So far, we surveyed 9 countries.

We were using the same methodology, almost the same questionnaires, and the same diagnosis instrument, the Sleep-EVAL system.

This was allowing us to do comparisons between these countries.
